New Fee Structure for Private Schools of Assam

The Government of Assam has fixed a new fee structure for non-government (private) educational institutes in Assam for the academic year 2021-22.

Recently, A notification has been issued by the principal secretary of elementary and secondary education, B Kalyan Chakravarthy stated that Guardians of students in the pre-primary stage up to class V would have to pay a maximum of Rs 27,000 annually, and Rs 32,000 for those studying in classes VI to X. In the technical streams, the students studying in classes XI and XII should be maximum of Rs 37,000 for Science, Rs 32,000 for Arts, Rs 33,000 for Commerce,, and Rs 35,000 for other streams annually.

The total fee means admission fee, tuition fee, building or infrastructure development fees, sports, and cultural fees except for transportation fee.

According to the Assam Non-Government Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fees) Act, 2018, the education department of Assam is authorized to levy fines and initiate various disciplinary measures, including rejection of registration, and also affiliation, in the event of a contravention of the rates fixed by the department.

Official Order of New Fee Structure for Private Schools of Assam states that if any private school charges less than the amount fixed by the department, it would exempt them from the determination of the fee, but, they will have to receive the exemption certificate from the Fee Regulatory Committee. However, if any private school wants to charge more than the amount fixed by govt, they would have to be required to submit proposals for approval and fixation of fees following the provisions of Regulation of Fees Act, Assam.
